How a project runs
Six phases, from the first conversation to the day you get the keys, and the follow-up after.
The first conversation
We walk the land, or the existing home, together. You talk, Nick listens, and then we get honest about three things: what you want, what it costs, and how long it takes. If the fit is not right, we will say so. If it is, you will know exactly what happens next.
You leave with: a clear read on feasibility, budget range, and timing.
Site and budget alignment
The lake country is beautiful and complicated. Slopes, soils, shoreline setbacks, septic and well, township permitting: we evaluate all of it before design, because the site sets the budget more than the finishes do.
- Site walk and buildability review
- Survey, soils, and utility coordination
- A real budget, aligned before drawings are finished
Design and selections
Bring your architect, or start from a sketch with ours. Either way, every drawing gets reviewed by the person who will actually build it. Then selections are made and locked: cabinetry, stone, windows, fixtures, finishes. A fixed scope is what keeps a custom build calm.
The number you approve is the number the project is run to.
The build
One crew takes the home from excavation to the final coat of finish, with Nick on site. Decisions get made in the field the day questions come up, and you get steady updates, so you always know what happened this week and what happens next.
- Owner on site, not a rotating project manager
- The same craftsmen from foundation to trim
- Progress photos and plain-language updates
The walkthrough
Before the keys change hands, we walk every room together against the plan. The punch list gets finished, not filed. The final walkthrough is done with Nick, item by item, before the job is called finished.
After you move in
The relationship does not end at the walkthrough. Seasonal questions, warranty items, the addition you start dreaming about two years later: one call still reaches the builder who built the house.
Most Monien clients come back for a second project. That is the real review.
Every morning he would explain what the day would entail, every night he told us how progress went.

The first conversation costs nothing and commits you to nothing. Nick follows up personally.
